Life Part II

The last time we “talked” , I was discussing what to do as we age. I talked about loosing weight, exercise, and a bit about diet. I could discuss these issues for the next 20 blogs but that would get tedious. Today, lets talk about the mental part of aging.
You’re as young as you feel. I am sure most of you have heard that saying. What does it mean though? Are you as young as you feel? Is that possible? I think it is. We probably have all known people that are on both ends of this spectrum. People that are old before there time and people that are seemingly ageless. How can that happen?
Chuck Swindoll has said that virtually the only thing we really have control over is our attitude. Attitude has a huge impact on aging. I really feel that its not how old you are its how old you think you are. I ,of all people, understand that we do age. As we age, things just do not work as well. To a certain extent we do and should have diminished expectations. We don’t move as fast. We don’t heal as quickly. We don’t think as well. Here is where the attitude has a big affect.
You are going to have diminished performance but while I do not give in to that, I do understand it. With that in mind, don’t give up and don’t get depressed. Do what you can do to the best of your ability. Bear in mind that no matter what age, always strive for improvement. Look for new conquests. Never give up!
I will close with a story of one of my heroes, my Mom. She will be 87 in July. As we were going out for Mothers Day, she was asking me if I knew if those language courses the TV advertised were any good. Why? A number of Hispanics have moved into her neighborhood and she wants to witness to them. Incredible! She also wants to learn to play the violin better. Shes got it! Till next time. You get it too.
